Anthony Fontana leads scoring as Union beat New England

Foxborough, MA: We are at the point of the 2020 MLS Season where the teams find out if they have what it takes to make it to the playoffs & your Philadelphia Union already have found that out as they became the second team in the East to clinch a playoff spot. 

The Philadelphia Union would take on New England Revolution on Monday Night from Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA. The Union come into game off a win over DC United while the Revolution welcome the challenge from the Union after their win over Montreal.

In the first half, both teams would have their opportunities to score and make it difficult for the other team but they just could not. The Union would get the scoring started in the 34th minute as Kacper Przybylko would come down the left side of the field the throw it on goal & in the process hit off Revolution Andrew Farrell  for a own goal & a 1-0 lead

The Goal:

The Union would take a 1-0 lead into halftime & the Union would continue to put the pressure on the New England Revolution and added to the lead in the 69th minute as Anthony Fontana put home the goal off a nice pass from Jamiro Monteiro

How the Union Made it 2-0

New England would finally get through the Union Defense and bang home the goal from Tajon Buchanan in the 80th minute which cuts the Union lead to 2-1.

Later in the match, Union Goalie would make one of the big saves of the game to keep the lead for the Union in the 85th minute

This game would also mark the return of Cory Buke who has not played for the Union in over a year & half and he would enter the game as a sub in the 77th minute

The Union would hold on for the 2-1 win & now head for a big first place encounter on Saturday against Toronto.

Postgame:

Union Coach Jim Curtin would say that tonight’s game had a playoff like feel as both teams would get physical as this would be the 4th time that the Union would play New England this season including in the MLS Is Back Tournament in Orlando.

Union Goalie Andre Blake made 7 saves in the game would discuses what they took from tonight as they head into 1st place battle on Saturday

Anthony Fontana would explain how big this game was against New England to get 3 points on the road
