Flyers Throwback: Flyers knockout Lighting in Game 2 to Even East Finals

Tampa Bay: The entire nation continues on in the fight to end the nasty virus called coronavirus & attempt to get back to normal. Let’s go back in time for a moment that happened in Philadelphia sports history.

Let’s go to May 10, 2004, as the Philadelphia Flyers took on the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 2 of the 2004 Eastern Conference Finals from St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa Bay, the Flyers lost the first game and this was the game to determine how the rest of the series would go.

In Game 2, the Flyers came out and jumped all over the lightning as they took a 3-0 lead at end of the first period. Part of the goal-scoring in the first period was a great play by Sami Kapanen scored a shorthanded goal which made it 3-0.

Gary Thorne on ESPN:

The Lightning just did not have an answer for the offense output the Flyers show in this game as they did not get on the board until the 3rd period as the Flyers already had the game decided and made a statement that this is going to be a long series.

The Flyers won Game 2 by the score of 6-2 to even the Eastern Conference Finals at 1-1 as this would now shift to Philadelphia for Games 3 & 4.
