Villanova PA: After a bad performance against Butler on Friday, the Villanova Women’s basketball team looked to get back to their winning ways as they took on Xavier Musketeers on Sunday Afternoon from Finneran Pavilion on the campus of Villanova University.
In the first quarter, Villanova would jump all over Xavier after Xavier took the 2-0 lead and Wildcats would respond with by going on a 16-0 run before the Musketeers ended the run at 16-4 with 2:59 left. Villanova took a 21-6 lead at the end of the 1st quarter.
During the second quarter, the Wildcats would keep the pressure on Musketeers as they kept making things difficult for them as they took a 34-17 lead at halftime, at this point of the game, everyone thought the Wildcats would cruise to a win but no so fast, Xavier would wake up and make things very interesting for the second half.
The Musketeers came out in the third quarter and slowly cut the Wildcats lead as they got it down to 12 at 50-38 to end the third quarter. During the fourth quarter, Xavier got the Wildcats lead down to 9 on three separate times with the last one being 58-49 with 2:56 left. The Wildcats would answer with Madison Siegrist huge 3 pointers
The Wildcats would make their foul shots to ice the game as the Wildcats responded with a 66-54 win. Win the win, the Wildcats are now 9-7 (4-2 in Big East) while Musketeers fall to 2-14 (1-4 in Big East).
What is next:
The Wildcats will now return to Big 5 action when they take on Penn on January 15 at Finneran Pavilion while Xavier will attempt to get back on the winning way as they battle DePaul on January 17.
